The Naut traces to a 1971 Converse children's gym shoe, a vulcanized plimsoll that never had a major cultural moment of its own. Tyler, the Creator pulled it from the Converse archive in 2025 for his 1908 line, recutting the same slim nautical shape in heavier canvas with brass hardware, which is why it lives in the Golf le Fleur community rather than mainstream sneaker discourse.
Feedback splits, so check carefully. Some wide-foot wearers find it comfortable and true to size, while other owners say it ran long and they swapped down half a size. The closed-toe lacing offers little adjustment room, so if you are between sizes and have a narrower foot, start half a size down from your usual Converse.
