Pretty Hate Machine is the debut studio album by American industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails, originally released in October 1989 via TVT Records. The album gradually became a word-of-mouth cult favorite after being virtually ignored upon its release. Trent Reznor recorded the album while working at a Cleveland studio, drawing on his background in synth-pop.
