Thought we were done? Cmoonnnn, you know us better than that.
After the debut of the adidas Melbourne, we're elated—and a little relieved—to finally reveal our exclusive colourway, a project that we've had in the pipeline this entire time. It comes dressed in black, of course—the shade of Melbourne.
For our first project since joining the adidas Consortium family, the idea was simple—honour the city which helped us get here. The adidas City Series is held in the highest esteem and we wanted to see Melbourne join the likes of London, Dublin, Malmö, and München with an entry of its own.
The silhouette is born of a track spike from the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, the midfoot 'biscuit' and suede collar lifted from the vintage gem. Research revealed a rare version of the ROME (an Australian icon) made in full black for military use, forming the basis of the colour blocking.
The die-cut midsole is millimetre perfect, balancing the right low-profile stance whilst eeking-out every last bit of comfort. Internally we went the extra mile—a padded and leather-lined heel, along with a performance insole from the skate range.
The cherry on top? A foam tongue refined over multiple samples to replicate an Australian-made adidas ROME from our own archive. The label is a direct scan of the tongue on our vintage pair. The only tweak is "MADE FOR UP THERE" script—a clue to the exclusive nature of this colourway.
The all-black Melbourne is a global exclusive available only from UP THERE.
