Starter was founded in New Haven in 1971 by David Beckerman and became one of the first labels to merge licensed pro-sports graphics with fashion-led outerwear. Its satin jackets and logo-heavy team pieces defined late-1980s and 1990s fanwear, and the brand remains deeply tied to throwback league culture.
