Russell Athletic

Russell Athletic was founded in 1902 in Alexander City, Alabama, by Benjamin Russell. The company invented the sweatshirt in 1926 when Russell's son, a football player, asked his father to create a more comfortable alternative to wool jerseys. That invention made Russell one of the most important names in American sportswear history.
