Nixon was founded in 1998 in Encinitas, California, by Andy Laats and Chad DiNenna, who saw an opportunity to make watches and accessories designed specifically for the surf, skate, and snow communities. The brand's bold, sport-inflected timepieces filled a gap between luxury watches and basic digital sports watches.
