Issey Miyake

Issey Miyake opened his design studio in Tokyo in 1970 after working under Guy Laroche and Givenchy in Paris. Miyake spent the next five decades exploring the fundamental relationship between fabric and body — developing pleating technologies, A-POC (A Piece of Cloth) construction, and material experiments that treated fashion as a branch of applied research rather than seasonal decoration.
