Christian Louboutin opened his first shoe salon in Paris in 1991, and the red sole — inspired by a moment when he painted the underside of a prototype with an assistant's red nail polish — became one of the most recognized signatures in luxury fashion. Louboutin's stilettos, boots, and men's shoes are made in Italian factories with a theatrical, maximalist sensibility.
