Burton

Burton Snowboards was founded in 1977 by Jake Burton Carpenter in a Vermont barn, where he began modifying Snurfer boards into what would become modern snowboards. Burton essentially invented the snowboard industry — building the boards, lobbying ski resorts to allow snowboarders on their mountains, and sponsoring riders who defined the culture.
