Battenwear was founded in 2011 by Shinya Hasegawa from a small workshop in New York. Hasegawa, who had worked at Nepenthes alongside Daiki Suzuki, built the brand around outdoor functional staples — packable anoraks, board shorts, fleece pullovers — made with vintage sportswear proportions and details drawn from 1970s-1980s American outdoor culture.
